Many people may think that a small motorcycle or short-distance riding near home does not require insurance. However, in reality, motorcycles are among the vehicles with the highest accident rates on the road, and accidents can happen every day — whether it’s a regular motorcycle, a delivery bike, or a big bike.
Motorcycle insurance helps reduce the financial burden caused by unexpected events, including medical expenses, vehicle repair costs, and damages involving life, bodily injury, or third-party property, according to the conditions of each insurance plan.
Today, motorcycle insurance is available in two main types:
Compulsory Insurance (Motorcycle Compulsory Insurance / พ.ร.บ.)
This is the basic coverage required by law, mainly focusing on initial medical expenses for accident victims.
Voluntary Motorcycle Insurance
This provides additional protection beyond compulsory insurance and is available in several coverage types:
- Type 1
- Type 2+
- Type 3+
- Type 3
These plans offer broader protection for the motorcycle itself, accidents, third-party liability, and theft coverage, depending on the selected insurance type.
